Women & Hi Tech is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the 2018-2019 Board of Directors. 

This is an exciting time to join the Women & Hi Tech leadership team. Serving on the Board of Directors is a chance to help improve our programs and services, and further our mission to change the landscape of women represented in STEM to be equally inclusive to all through providing mentoring, education, networking and professional development, while recognizing and supporting girls and women in STEM.

The Nomination Committee is seeking candidates for Secretary, Executive Women’s Forum Director, Networking Events Director, and K-12 Outreach Director. Women & Hi Tech is run by an all-volunteer, working Board of Directors. We’re looking for candidates who are actively engaged with Women & Hi Tech, and will bring wisdom, experience, effectiveness, candor, and creative thinking to the organization.

The call for nominations closes Monday, April 16, 2018. Multiple nominations are permitted. All nominations will be reviewed by the Nomination Committee. Nominees must be Women & Hi Tech members in good standing at the time of initial voting and must remain in good standing throughout her tenure.  New board members take office in July, 2018.

Nominees for all positions need to demonstrate knowledge of the STEM community and its changing needs, have the ability to positively influence others, and be willing to solicit and obtain financial contributions. Board members are expected to attend annual Board Orientation in addition to twelve (12) board meetings per year.  To assist you with nominating members, below are descriptions for the open board positions:

SECRETARY:

The Secretary position is an officer of the Board of Directors. The role maintains a vote on all board matters.

Term of Office: One (1) year

Qualifications: The Secretary has proven experience in information and communication management.

Time Commitment: 5 – 10 hours per month

Responsibilities: 

  • Keep a record of the proceedings of every meeting of the Board of Directors.

  • Distribute draft minutes to board for review prior to the following board meeting.

  • Make any revisions based on board member input.

  • Distribute final minutes.

  • Maintain attendance at the board meetings.

  • Delegate above duties to another board member with their permission.

  • Attend Executive Women’s Forums, Networking Events, and Leading Light Awards.

  • Participate in panel discussions and other events as a representative of Women & Hi Tech.

EXECUTIVE WOMEN’S FORUM DIRECTOR:

The Executive Women’s Forum Director role is a volunteer position. The role maintains a vote on all board matters.

Term of Office: Two (2) years

Qualifications:  The Executive Women’s Forum Director position is dedicated to the professional development of women in a wide range of STEM industries and roles. She has a spirit of hospitality, strong public speaking skills, and has demonstrated the ability to plan and execute similar events.

Time Commitment: 5 – 10 hours per month

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute 3-4 Executive Women’s Forum (EWF) events per calendar year within approved budget.
  • Determine programming for the EWF in line with the Women & Hi Tech mission and vision.
  • Identify venues to host EWFs, and coordinate special setups, or facilities requests with host location.
  • Coordinate with the Communications Director to ensure social media blasts, advertisements, and information provided to membership is accurate and timely.
  • Prepare introduction of speakers and topics for EWF.
  • Attend Executive Women’s Forums, Networking Events, and Leading Light Awards.
  • Participate in panel discussions and other events as a representative of Women & Hi Tech.

NETWORKING EVENTS DIRECTOR:

The Networking Events Director role is a volunteer position. The role maintains a vote on all board matters.

Term of Office: Two (2) years

Qualifications: The Networking Events Director has shown a passion for hospitality.

Time Commitment: 5 – 10 hours per month

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute networking events within approved budget.
  • Identify venues to host networking events.
  • Serve as the point of contact for internal or external partners to suggest new venues that would further the Women & Hi Tech networking mission.
  • Actively participate in the networking aspects of additional events, such as the Executive Women’s Forums, the Leading Light Awards, and the Fall Retreat.
  • Coordinate with the Communications Director to ensure social media blasts, advertisements, and information provided to membership is accurate and timely.
  • Attend Executive Women’s Forums, Networking Events, and Leading Light Awards.
  • Participate in panel discussions and other events as a representative of Women & Hi Tech.

K-12 OUTREACH DIRECTOR:

The K-12 Outreach Director role is a volunteer position. The role maintains a vote on all board matters.

Term of Office: 2 years

Qualifications:  The K-12 Outreach Director should have experience in a K-12 education environment, STEM education, or youth outreach activities.

Time Commitment: 5 – 10 hours per month

Responsibilities

  • Provide opportunities for Women & Hi Tech members to serve as STEM mentors.
  • Manage involvement and sponsorship of Passport to Hi Tech (P2HT) and Ignite Your Superpower! (IYS).
  • Serve as the point of contact for organizations looking for financial or volunteer support for K-12 programs.
  • Evaluate outreach opportunities for Women & Hi Tech, whether from outside the organization or proposed internally, make decisions about the feasibility of each opportunity, and make recommendations to the full board for its action.
  • Coordinate with Collegiate Outreach Director on initiatives, activities and programming that reach multiple constituencies.
  • Attend Executive Women’s Forums, Networking Events, and Leading Light Awards.
  • Participate in panel discussions and other events as a representative of Women & Hi Tech.
